Classic, hybrid or volume — which set is yours?

Classic is one extension on one natural lash: the mascara-every-day look, with definition nobody can quite place. It suits first sets, fine or sparse lashes that want length without weight, and anyone whose goal is “I woke up like this.” Hybrid mixes classic lashes and handmade fans roughly half and half, which gives texture — a wispy, slightly uneven line that reads as your own lashes on a very good day. It is the set we recommend most often to people moving up from classic, and to anyone who says “full but not fake.” Volume is a hand-built fan of three to six ultra-fine fibers on every lash: soft, full and fluffy, and — because the fibers are so light — usually gentler on sparse natural lashes than a heavy classic set would be. It is the set for event season, for cameras, and for people who simply want the most lash they can wear weightlessly.

None of those descriptions is a rule. Your natural lashes decide what they can carry, and the consultation is where we say so out loud. Two artists, two price tiers — both published

Most studios quote one number and let you discover the rest at the desk. We have two artists and two price lists, and both are on this page. Samantha’s full sets are $150 classic, $185 hybrid and $220 volume, with fills at $90, $105 and $115. Anastasiia’s — the founder, a handmade-volume specialist who also trains lash artists — are $200, $250 and $300, with fills at $110, $135 and $150. Same products, same handmade fans, same consultation; the difference is who is holding the tweezers.

Full sets take about 2 hours 15 minutes (classic), 2 hours 30 (hybrid) and 3 hours 20 (volume). Fills are booked every 14–28 days and run 65–120 minutes; our clients’ typical gap is 24 days (see how often you need a lash fill). If you’re moving to us with a set from another studio, the first fill carries a $25 transfer fee to cover checking and correcting what’s already on your lashes. Every price, for every service, is on the pricing page — nothing is quoted only in the chair.

What happens at your appointment

The consultation comes first. Before anything touches your lashes we look at them: how long and how strong your natural lashes are, how your eyes are set, what you do all day, and what you want the set to say. That decides the curl, the lengths and the map — not a chart on the wall. Sometimes it means recommending a lighter set than the one you asked for, because it will look better and last longer on your lashes.

Then the set is built, lash by lash. You lie back with your eyes closed. Each natural lash is isolated and one extension (classic) or one hand-built fan of three to six ultra-fine fibers (volume) is placed on it, never on the skin and never across two lashes. Handmade fans are the slow part and the whole point: they’re built to the thickness your lash can carry, so the set feels weightless and sheds with your natural cycle instead of pulling ahead of it. Most clients fall asleep.

Before you leave, you know how to keep it. Keep the set dry for the first few hours, then cleanse daily with a lash-safe foaming wash, brush each morning, and keep oils away from the lash line. Do they build fans by hand, or use pre-made trays?

This is the single biggest quality split in lash work. Handmade fans are built at the chair, lash by lash, matched to the thickness your natural lashes can carry. Pre-made fans come off a tray, already bonded at the base (heat-sealed or glued, depending on the brand) — faster and cheaper to apply, but picked from fixed sizes rather than built for the lash under them. Ask the question directly; “we use the highest-quality fans” without the word handmade usually means trays.

Does the appointment start with a real consultation?

Your eye shape, natural lash strength, and lifestyle should decide your set — not a one-size-fits-all map. A good studio looks at your lashes before quoting you a style, talks through classic vs hybrid vs volume, and will sometimes talk you down to a lighter set because it’s what your natural lashes can hold. If you’re on the bed within two minutes of walking in, the set will look like everyone else’s — and probably won’t last.

Are they honest about retention?

No set lasts forever, and anyone who promises otherwise is selling. The honest math: extensions shed a few at a time with your natural lashes, so a good set needs a fill every 2–4 weeks ($90–$115 here with Samantha, depending on style). What you want from a studio is that they tell you this up front, ask about your aftercare habits, and troubleshoot with you if retention is short — not blame you by default or upsell you a new full set every month.

Is the pricing public and complete?

A trustworthy studio posts its prices — full sets and fills, for every artist — where you can see them before you book. Hidden fill pricing is how a “$99 full set” becomes the most expensive lashes in town by month two. Getting to the studio

Eye Charm is at 4000 Avenue B, Austin, TX 78751 — a converted house on a quiet Hyde Park street, two blocks off Duval. We’re open seven days a week, 10am to 6pm, and there is free street parking directly outside; no garage, no validation, no circling. From North Loop, Hancock or the UT campus it’s a five-minute drive; Mueller, Rosedale and Cherrywood are under ten; Crestview, Allandale, Windsor Park and East Austin are ten to fifteen. Clients also come in from Cedar Park and Leander for the handmade fans, and each neighborhood page below lists the measured drive from a landmark you know. The 1, 7 and 10 buses stop within a few blocks, and the studio is an easy bike ride from anywhere in central Austin.
