Cedar Park has been worth the trip for 130 years
People making the trip between Cedar Park and central Austin is nothing new. In 1892 Cedar Park built a half-acre “strolling park” by its train depot, and Austinites rode the Austin & Northwestern Railroad out for a day in the country. The town itself started as Running Brushy, named for the strong spring feeding the creek on the Cluck family ranch — Harriet Cluck was famously the first woman to make the Chisholm Trail cattle drive. It took the name we know in 1887, when Emmett Cluck rechristened it Cedar Park for that park and the thick stands of mountain cedar. The Brushy Creek Regional Trail still follows the water the whole thing was named for.
These days the train’s gone and the trip runs the other way.

If 183 is having a bad day, the rail option is genuine: the Red Line’s nearest stop is Lakeline, the rail runs to Crestview, and the 7 goes down Duval from there to within a block of the door.
