Allandale: older than it looks

Allandale wears its leafy, ranch-house calm so well that you’d never guess how far back the land goes. The story starts in 1841, when George W. Davis was granted this stretch by Mirabeau B. Lamar, president of the Republic of Texas, for his service at the Battle of San Jacinto — and the Davis family cemetery, now a Texas Historical Cemetery, is still tucked into the neighborhood. The Allandale you know took shape a century later, platted starting in 1946 by W. Murray Graham, the man they called the “dean of the Austin real estate profession.”

Parks, a quarry, and the good kind of quiet

Here’s a fun one: Beverly S. Sheffield Northwest District Park, right in the heart of Allandale, started life as a limestone quarry — and that limestone helped build the 1853 Texas Capitol. Today it’s where neighbors swim laps (there’s a real high dive), and just beyond it you’ve got Great Northern Dog Park and the Shoal Creek Greenbelt, miles of shaded trail for runners, cyclists, and very happy dogs. Add the Burnet Road food-and-coffee corridor and you’ve got a neighborhood that’s outdoorsy, unhurried, and quietly proud of itself.

Lashes for the low-maintenance crowd

Allandale folks tend to want polished without fuss, which is exactly our lane. At Eye Charm Artistry, every appointment opens with a consultation and a shape mapped to your eyes, then handmade fans — never pre-made off a tray. Classic lashes ($150) keep it soft and natural; hybrid ($185) adds a little texture; volume ($220) brings the full, fluffy look. If you’d rather wake up and go, a keratin lash lift ($115) lifts your own lashes for six to eight weeks with zero fills, and brow lamination ($125) (or a quick tint at $30) keeps your brows full and groomed between trail runs.

Getting here from Allandale

It’s a short, low-stress drive — figure ten to fifteen minutes. Head south on Shoal Creek or Burnet, jog over on 45th Street, and you’ll land in Hyde Park at 4000 Avenue B. No downtown parking headache here: free street parking sits right around the studio. We’re open seven days a week, 10am–6pm, so it’s easy to slip a fill in around the dog park and the farmers market.

“I'm so impressed by Anastasiia's lash work. My eyelashes stayed on for 5 weeks and they could have stayed even longer. I'm a swimmer and in water often and nothing happened to them. I'm blown away! Highly recommend.”

Can I get a same-week lash appointment near Allandale?

Usually, yes — we're open seven days a week, 10am–6pm, and our calendar at eyecharmaustin.com/book shows real-time openings, so the quick run down Burnet often fits the same week you start looking.
