East Austin: the most storied side of town

East Austin holds more living history than just about anywhere in the city. Much of that history is hard-won: Austin’s 1928 city plan deliberately concentrated services for Black residents on the east side, drawing a line that shaped the neighborhood for generations. What the community built in response is extraordinary — a cultural legacy that’s now recognized as Six Square, Austin’s Black Cultural District. This is a part of town to know with respect, not just visit.

Landmarks that made Austin music and history

The roll call here is genuinely remarkable. The George Washington Carver Museum — housed in a 1926 building that was Austin’s first library branch for the African American community — is the first neighborhood museum in Texas devoted to Black history and culture. Huston-Tillotson University, an HBCU with roots going back to 1875, is the oldest institution of higher education in Austin. The Victory Grill has been a landmark since 1945; as a stop on the Chitlin’ Circuit it hosted Billie Holiday, B.B. King, and a who’s-who of touring greats. And just toward downtown sits the French Legation, built in 1841 and one of the oldest standing houses in the entire city. Add Downs Field, the Texas State Cemetery, and the taco-and-coffee energy of the Manor Road and East 11th corridors, and you’ve got a neighborhood that’s equal parts museum, music hall, and dinner reservation.

Lashes for the east side

East Austin moves with real style, and our lash work keeps up. At Eye Charm Artistry, every set begins with a consultation and a shape mapped to your eyes, then handmade fans — never pre-made off a tray. Keep it understated with classic lashes ($150), add dimension with hybrid ($185), or go full and fluffy with a volume set ($220). Want something you never have to think about? A keratin lash lift ($115) curls your own lashes for six to eight weeks, and brow lamination ($125) (or a quick $30 tint) keeps your brows full and sharp.

“I'm so impressed by Anastasiia's lash work. My eyelashes stayed on for 5 weeks and they could have stayed even longer. I'm a swimmer and in water often and nothing happened to them. I'm blown away! Highly recommend.”

East Austin lash questions, answered

How far is the studio from East Austin?

About eight to twelve minutes — head north and west through Cherrywood into Hyde Park at 4000 Avenue B.

Will I have to pay to park?

No — street parking by the studio is free and simple, a nice change from hunting for a spot on East 11th.

Which services are on the menu?

The full lineup: classic, hybrid, and volume extensions, keratin lash lifts, and brow lamination — every set consulted on and shaped before we start.

Can East Austin clients get in the same week?

Usually — we run seven days a week, 10am to 6pm, and you can check every real-time opening at eyecharmaustin.com/book before you commit to anything.

How much is a full set of extensions?

$150 to $220 depending on the look: classic at $150, hybrid at $185, and full volume at $220.

Are your fans pre-made or handmade?

Handmade, always — each volume fan is crafted during your appointment rather than peeled off a tray, so the set fits your natural lashes exactly.
