How to Prepare for Your Lash Appointment: A Simple Checklist
May 30, 2026 · By Anastasiia
To prep for your lash appointment, arrive with a clean, makeup-free face — especially no eye makeup or mascara — skip caffeine if you can, and plan for about 2–3 hours of lying still. Clean, oil-free lashes let the adhesive bond properly, which means better retention from day one. A little prep makes your appointment smoother and your set last longer.
Your pre-appointment checklist
- Come makeup-free (no eye makeup, no mascara) — makeup and oil block adhesion and shorten retention.
- Cleanse your lashes so they’re clean and dry — a clean lash line bonds best.
- Skip waterline and lower-lash makeup — it leaves residue that interferes with the bond.
- Go easy on caffeine that morning — caffeine can make eyes flutter, slowing the work.
- Remove contact lenses (bring glasses) — you’ll have eyes closed for hours, and comfort matters.
- Plan for 2–3 hours — a full set takes time to do well.
- Use the restroom first — you’ll be lying down and can’t easily get up mid-set.
Why makeup-free matters most
Any makeup, oil, or residue on your lashes acts as a barrier between the extension and your natural lash. That’s the single most common reason a set sheds early. Arrive with clean, bare lashes and the adhesive bonds the way it should — giving you the full lifespan extensions are capable of.
What about caffeine?
You don’t have to skip it, but a lot of coffee can make your eyes twitch and flutter, which makes precise isolation harder and can lengthen your appointment. If you’re sensitive, ease off that morning — your artist (Ana or Samantha) will thank you.
