Can You Shower, Swim, and Cry with Lash Extensions?
May 28, 2026 · By Anastasiia
Short answer: yes. Once the first 24 hours have passed and the adhesive has fully cured, you can shower, swim, sweat, and cry with lash extensions. Water itself doesn’t hurt them — the things that shorten retention are heavy steam in the first day, oil, and rubbing.
Showering
After day one, normal showers are fine. Keep your face out of a direct hot stream, avoid long steamy soaks, and pat (don’t rub) your lashes dry. Then brush them out with a clean spoolie once they’re dry.
Swimming
You can swim with extensions. Chlorine and salt water won’t dissolve a good bond, but it’s smart to rinse with fresh water afterward and gently cleanse to remove residue. Avoid rubbing your eyes with a towel.
Crying, sweating, and workouts
Tears and sweat are saline and won’t melt your lashes. After a good cry or a hard workout, just rinse and let them dry, then brush. The bigger risk is wiping your eyes — so blot gently instead.
The real rules
- First 24 hours: avoid steam, swimming, and saunas
- Always: cleanse daily, avoid oil, never rub or pick
- After water: rinse, pat dry, and brush out
