Brow Wax vs Threading: Which Is Better for Your Brows?

May 31, 2026 · By Anastasiia

Eyebrow shaping by waxing compared with threading

Both brow waxing and threading remove hair from the root and last about two to four weeks — the difference is in feel, precision, and speed. Waxing is quick and gives clean, defined edges; threading shapes hair-by-hair and tends to be gentler on sensitive skin. At Eye Charm Artistry, both are $30, so you can choose based on your skin and the look you want — not the price.

How they work

Waxing applies a thin layer of warm wax to the unwanted hair, then lifts it away in one motion, clearing a whole section at once. Threading uses a twisted cotton thread rolled across the skin to catch and lift individual hairs in a line. Both pull from the root, which is why results last and regrowth comes in softer over time.

Which should you choose?

Choose waxing if you want a fast appointment and crisp, sculpted edges, and your skin handles warm wax well. Choose threading if you have sensitive or reactive skin, use retinols, or want extra-precise detailing around fine hairs. Many clients happily switch between the two depending on how their skin feels that week.

A note on sensitive skin

If you use retinoids, exfoliating acids, or have easily reactive skin, threading avoids both the warm wax and the skin pull of waxing — which can mean less redness afterward. Either way, your artist will check what you’re using before starting.

Common questions

Is brow waxing or threading better?

Neither is universally better — it depends on your skin and goals. Waxing is faster and gives crisp, defined edges; threading is more precise hair-by-hair and gentler on sensitive or reactive skin. Both are $30 at Eye Charm Artistry in Hyde Park, Austin.

Is threading better for sensitive skin?

Often, yes. Threading removes hair without applying warm wax or pulling at the skin, so it can be a better choice if you have sensitive or reactive skin, or use retinols. We offer threading by request with our artist Samantha.

How long do waxed or threaded brows last?

Both remove hair from the root, so results typically last about two to four weeks before regrowth. The longevity is similar — the main differences are precision, speed, and how each feels on your skin.
